Cool “ring of fire” Eclipse Widely Seen Around the World

Posted on

Yesterday the moon passed in front of the sun leaving only a golden ring around its edges and creating incredible visual effects for the world to see. Here in Seattle, unsurprisingly the clouds covered our view but it was quite a show for people in other parts of the world where the sky was clear. An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun, causing the Sun to look like a ring blocking most of the Sun’s light. This event won’t darken the sky as much as a total eclipse, in which the moon blocks the sun completely.
